It is intended to obtain data on the presence of non-native species in the Slovenian sea and to monitor their expansion and impacts on indigenous species. This will be a measure for the prevention, control and control of invasive alien species and a measure to test new techniques for mapping invasive alien species.
The project will also aim at raising stakeholders on the effects of invasive alien species and on their routes of introduction and spread.
Targeted monitoring of non-native species will be carried out in the areas most exposed to the introduction of non-native species (ports and shellfish farms) and areas most sensitive to the occurrence of non-native species (riverside outflows). Information will be obtained for the needs of nature conservation in Slovenia, for defining measures for conservation of marine biodiversity, protection of the marine environment and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources.
