Operation name Lifting lost / abandoned fishing gear in the Slovenian sea
Operation summary

The purpose of the operation is to preserve the natural environment and increase the biodiversity of the Slovenian marine environment. The preservation of the sustainable development of fisheries is hampered by abandoned fishing gear. Removal brings economic and general benefits. Sustainable fishing can be provided through long-term operations; the intervention of lost fishing gear is a direct economic benefit for the fisherman. Removing the fishing gear increases the potential for the development of biodiversity in cleaned locations. The primary objective of the operation is to identify at least 50 contaminated sites and to be cleaned with divers and vessels within 25 months to restore biodiversity (assuming an increase of at least 5,000 m of nets and 300 kg of metals). It is in the public interest of preserving the environment and natural heritage.
